I've got to join in on this because I think it's complete bull shit what the lj mods are doing.

If you believe in freedom of speech, and getting your word out on things that are problematic, and can do something to help others avoid it, then please follow suit and post this letter in your lj as well.

Dear LJ:
I was quite appalled to hear about your mass-deletion of communities and journals with what you deemed as 'triggering' interests. Some of us have survived Rape. Some of us have survived abuse. And some of us wish to speak up and help others. How can we do that if you're taking away what we use to help those in need?
Have you even researched this "Warriors For Innocence"? Now what about the countless others who will not benefit from this deletion? What about the countless molesters who will now be driven further underground?
What about the countless members who have survived abuse, who have survived rape, and are now, finally, proud to stand up and say that they have... only for LJ to tell them that they can't?
Now what will we do? Now what source will we have to share our stories and our knowledge with others, now that your once-valuable source has been so ruthlessly and thoughtlessly taken away?
You were once one of the voices that helped make us strong as a united front.

And now your silence in the fight deafens me. Your silence speaks volumes, as much now as it will ever speak. Your silence is like a slap in the face to those of us who have survived the rape, survived the abuse, and are now, or will soon, learn to stand again, learn to live again, learn to function again.
I, personally, hope that you never experience what I have. And if that does happen, I hope that this very same silence never crosses your path.

Respectfully,
Krys

Absorb this. Repeat this. Link to this.
Public entry. Screened comments.

There are many factors for why the media and social views exist today.

1) Money makes the world go around. If everyone was happy with how they looked, would anyone sell makeup? How about diet plans? How about fitness programs? How about fashion magazines?

If people were happy the way they looked, they wouldn't read articles that say "100 Ways to Make You Look Better and Not Like the Slug I Just Ran Over".

2) We focus on the wrong thing. Sometimes people point out each other's flaws to make themselves feel better, or to reinforce an opinion of what is good or bad. Why do we need to focus on flaws? Why not focus on the super-awesome?

3) "Ordinary" people need to realize different availability. This is a bit dense, so everyone reading please bear with me. While fresh fruit and vegetables are available to everyone, don't you think that celebrities--whom everyone seems to idolize--will ALWAYS have it better than us "ordinary" folks?

3a) For one, they're photo-shopped. What was it, that Dove commercial that showed that girl getting everything on her face altered to become a model? Everyone has skin blemishes, unless one is rich enough to burn/cut/melt them off. Or they are on a magazine and edited off.

3b) For another, celebrities don't have to ever worry about how to get the best food. Celebrities can eat exotic fruits and vegetables freshly prepared at their table without lifting a finger if they so choose. They get the best nutrition because they can afford it. If by chance they ever get sick, they can afford the best doctors.

3c) Celebrities can look young forever with the plastic surgery they can afford. If most of them ever got attacked by a flesh-eating disease, a lot of their bodies would be inedible.

So there's the deal. If you want to compare yourself to Goddess McHotty and Manly McHunky, be my guest. If you want an honest opinion of how you look in a positive light, come find me.

It was funn talking with him, especially since it's been a couple years since I've seen him.

Want to know what the best part of the SATs was? I got to take them in the Japanese room! It was awesome! I got to read all the signs they had in there when I wasn't answering questions. It was really amusing. Especially since there were a lot of things hanging up on the walls that Noriko-sensei has in her room. I was really amused.

So yeah, SATs are over and now I get to send in applications to Oregon State and U of Oregon......funn......

But my dad and I talked for a little last night and he said that he would support me on whatever my choices are. But then he also said to keep it under wraps with my mom's family because they're uber conservative, and he said that I didn't need all the controversy just before I leave for college (I think he's thinking more money from other people for me to go to college...LOL).

I guess I can live with that, for now. But once I'm in school, I'm not going to hide it anymore.

I just want to say thank you to all of you that commented on my last post and are supporting me in all this.
OMFG!!!! I can't believe my mom! I finally told her that I'm bi, and what does she do? She doesn't beleive me because I 'haven't shown any signs'. Want to know why I haven't? Because I've been hiding it from you because I knew you'd react like this!!! And I over heard my parents talking about it. My mom said that if I don't change, then she'll kick me out! I can't believe her! I started crying when I heard her say that! At least my dad was defending me and saying I don't have a choice in whether I'm bi or not (yeay for psychology). She thinks that I've been pressured into being bi because my friends are either bi or gay. She doesn't know that I've realized I was bi for almost two years (since sophmore year). She doesn't know that I've had two girlfriends, and that I've had a crush on Kira for a long time.

I can't beleive my mom would do something like this! Why can't she just accept that I'm not like her and let me live my life the way I want? And you want to know what else she said? After she saw one of my shounen-ai stories on the computer? 'I didn't raise you to be like that.' Can you believe that?! I seriously want to leave this house like, right now. That would be the best thing to happen to me at the moment.

Gods! I hate this house! This is why I wasn't planning on telling my parents the truth until I left for college.

Just to warn you Kate and Kira, if I'm not too happy during the field trip tomorrow, this is why.

It was really awesome to see them.

Then last weekend was busy. On Thursday, Kate, Kira, Emily and I went to see 'The Prestige'. It's really awesome. I really liked it. Kira was saying that I have to see 'The Illusionist' since they're both about the same thing (magicians and is magic real and all that stuff). Then on Friday my mom and I drove down to Eugene to go to U of Oregon's campus visit on Saturday (Duck Preview). I saw people from school there also, so it was amusing.

Then on Sunday I had to work.....I was cleaning the ENTIRE 8 hours I worked.
Well, on Saturday (30th) I went to the memorial for Luke Glenn (the kid who got killed by police two weeks ago). I met up with a bunch of my friends and we all sat together. I don't really know what to say about it. It was unbelievable. 600+ people showed up for the service. The auditorium was filled. I mean, there were people standing because there weren't any seats left.

I had all this stuff that I wanted to say about the service, but now I don't know what to say, or what I should say. It's weird. It's like I'm not allowed to say anything about it out of respect for the Glenn family. But I want to becase I want people to know how much this kid was loved by not only his friends and family, but the community.

I guess since there's nothing more for me to say, I'm going to end this post. I'll be back later with more random things. I might post about Kate's birthday party Saturday night.

The only things I didn't like were the spiders (EWE!) and the fact that the movie was predictable. I liked the Harry Potter reference at the beginning though. Where...Reed (I think) said 'Harry Potter kiss my ass' just before their car lifted up into the air. But the best part? The part with Chase and Kaleb. Where Chase attacked kaleb (when didn't he?) in Kate's dorm room and then kissed him. That was amusing. LOL. I thought it was weird that there was a Kate, Kira and Sarah. Since I know people with those names. And two of them have lj's (kate and kira). well...off to sleep (soon) so I'm all rested to work at the Elton John concert tomorrow night. YEAY!

Not much has been going on lately....most of the school is still shook up about Lukus, which isn't that much of a surprise. I think everyone's going to be talking about him until his memorial on the 30th. Which I want to go to.

I pulled out the Tigard Times (local newspaper) and read all 6 articles in there about what happened to Lukus. Including one that my friend Paul's dad wrote for the Soapbox (articles printed that are written by locals). I was surprised. I had no idea that Paul was such good friends with Lukus. Apaprently Paul just broke down and started crying when he heard about what happened to Lukus. Then another article was quoting Paul, and none of Lukus' other friends. I feel even worse about what happened because one of my friends was really close with Lukus.

On a better note, I might get to see Yoshi-kun when I go down to Corvallis on october 13th (yes, it is a Friday)! I haven't seen him in 15 months! I miss him a lot!!!! But now Rachel might go with me and my dad and we might get together with Matt and hang out for a while. And I also want to find Derek and Pattsie while I'm there since they go to OSU as well.

Apparently one of the girls in the japanese class that is going on during my Independent study class just won $5 for wearing Tiger gear.
I guess I should go into a little more detail about what happened to luke for those of you who don't live in northern Oregon. Luke Glenn was a graduate from my high school, Tigard High School. He was on the football team (one of the best kickers we ever had), and loved to play soccer and hang out with his friends. I never really knew him, but I saw him all the time in school. I always thought of him as the school's pretty boy. He was gorgeous! I mean, truely gorgeous.

Here's what happened: This is an article from the Oregonian (Portland-based newspaper) website that was in our paper this morning written by Steven Duin.

Duin: In front yard, Glenn a threat to only himself

T wo irrational forces collided in Lukus Glenn's front yard early Saturday morning.

Glenn, an 18-year-old with an attitude, was drunk on alcohol and anger.

The sheriff's deputies from Washington County, armed with an attitude all their own, were high on adrenaline and low on patience. They also had an overwhelming advantage in firepower, leading to the inevitable funeral service and a few nagging questions about the self-described "conservator of the peace in Washington County."

For the sheriff's office, "nagging" is the word. There are three distinct stages in this kind of police shooting -- the incident, the community reaction and the grand jury's official stamp of approval -- and this intermediate stage, fraught with shock and disbelief, is the only one that's not controlled by the guys with the badge and the guns.

Society long ago decided cops get the benefit of the doubt when they face a threat with their finger on the trigger. That decision empowers the police at the scene and requires that DAs and grand juries hold them blameless. Only in this anguished middle ground is the need for deadly force met with any degree of skepticism.

Washington County Sheriff Rob Gordon said in a statement Monday that his deputies were dispatched to Garden Home to confront a knife-wielding suspect "who was suicidal and out of control."

They ordered Glenn to drop the knife. He didn't.

A Tigard cop hit him with three rounds from a beanbag shotgun. Glenn didn't fall. Instead, he swiveled back toward his house, the night's last fatal turn. That's all the deputies needed to cut loose. To protect Glenn's family, Gordon said, "the deputies both shot the suspect."

And sent several bullets roaring into the house, and past the family members they were trying to "protect."

Said Gordon, "I always caution folks to hold their final opinion on issues such as this until all the facts are fully known." I respect that. Like the Glenn family and several other witnesses on the scene, I simply wish the two deputies had showed similar restraint.

Even those who will memorialize Lukus Glenn this week agree he was drunk and depressed when he returned home at 2 a.m. Saturday and his parents refused to allow him to take his Yamaha dirt bike out on the road. No one but the Washington County sheriff's office, however, is arguing that he ever threatened anyone but himself.

The knife Glenn held to his throat? David Lucas, 19, who arrived at the Glenn house before the deputies did and, along with several others, tried to calm his friend down, said it was a hookah knife, used to widen the holes in the tin foil through which the hookah hoses are inserted.

"That's the knife I gave him for Christmas," Lucas said. "I was working at Big 5 and they had a six-pack of knives for sale. It's a three-inch knife with a plastic handle."

The sheriff's deputies, everyone agrees, were frantically screaming at Glenn to drop that knife. "They're saying they tried to negotiate with him, which they did at no time," Lucas said. Although the deputies were supposedly trained in crisis management, neither stepped back or tried to calm Glenn down.

"They just continued to yell at him. Over and over," Lucas said. "He was getting frustrated because they wouldn't talk to him. He asked Tony (Morales) to tell them to stop yelling."

David Lucas will concede this: "Luke had a problem. When someone told him he couldn't do something, it would make him want to do it more."

After a Tigard officer, who arrived as backup, rocked Glenn with the beanbag rounds, Lucas said, the county deputies opened fire almost immediately: "It wasn't like they shot him with a beanbag and waited for him to surrender. It happened all at once."

Just what provoked the fatal shots? The sheriff's office initially said Glenn "started for the front door of the residence." Lucas said, "He took a step . . . and looked like he was going to take a second step toward the house."

But Gordon's Monday statement said Glenn "started running" toward the house. "He had made threats, was armed, and was totally out of control. You don't have to search too deeply in media archives to find events where innocent family members are hurt or killed in these type of actions."

I suppose that's true. But the deputies had reason to believe a significant barricade separated Glenn from those innocent family members. According to Lucas, when the deputies arrived, Glenn's parents were in the doorway to the house. "The cops told them to go inside and lock the doors," Lucas said.

"The doors were locked. Or they should have been locked."

That brings me to the last of my nagging questions. Sheriff's deputies were told Glenn was suicidal and out of control, yet expected him to respond rationally when confronted by two screaming strangers with guns drawn.

Stranded in his front yard, Glenn was a threat to no one but himself, yet was shot and killed when he staggered away from several beanbag rounds and toward the home he might have perceived as sanctuary.

On Sheriff Rob Gordon's advice, I'm reluctant to reach any conclusions before the facts are "fully known." But I have to ask:

The next time a local teen-ager becomes unhinged and picks up a knife, what rational parent will dial 9-1-1? After the death of Lukus Glenn, what mother or father would expect help to arrive with the sheriff's deputies of Washington County?

Well...that's what happened. What do you think of it? Do you think the police were right or wrong in what they did? I could go on and say what I believe they did wrong and let all you know my opinion, but I don't want to waste your time. I'll let you all believe what you want to believe, and not what I believe. I know some of you may agree with what I would say, and some of you wouldn't.
